What is a Programmable Thermostat?

A programmable thermostat allows the homeowner to set temperature levels for different times of the day, seven days per week. If you have one of the older thermostats that have a lever or a slide control, then you must move this lever to change the temperature up or down. So if you are not in your home, the temperature stays at the setting you set it.

With a programmable thermostat, you will be able to automatically adjust your home temperature settings if you are away, at work, or sleeping. This will save you money. Plus a programmable thermostat is a lot more accurate that the older manual thermostats. The older ones contain mercury and the programmable ones do not so that is good for the environment.

You can override a pre-set temperature if you want to temporarily make your space warmer or cooler, and then it will go back to the settings. Your heating and air conditioning equipment will not run as much if you get rid of your old thermostat and that will be good to save on wear and tear.
